Today, we are going to talk about labiaplasty, labia minora reduction. Let’s check out this two-month post-op result on a beautiful 40-year-old mom. You can see here when you compare the before and after pictures that her labia minora used to hang out from below the labia majora here. It was really bothersome to this patient. She vividly describes how she was constantly having to tuck in that skin because if she didn’t tuck it properly, her underwear would pull on it. She literally describes having to go to the restroom specifically for that or forgetting to tuck in her labia after using the restroom, having to excuse herself from the dinner table to go back and adjust things. It was just very annoying for her, and it also bothered her the way it appeared. She healed beautifully from it and you can’t even identify the incisions under magnification. A gynecologist would not be able to tell us whether or not she had a labiaplasty there it looks so natural. So, it’s functionally improved. It makes her feel a lot better about it, and her husband even commented, saying very nice things about it, too. He didn’t realize much variability, but there is so much variability with what is a normal labia. As you can see from reviewing before and after pictures. One thing that is consistent though, with the labia minora hanging out excessively from the labia majora, it’s annoying for many women. Problem solved in this case. Labia Minora
There are two main choices for incisions when reshaping the labia minora (inner layers of skin around the vaginal opening). A rim excision reduces excessive skin along the entire length of the labia minora, between the clitoris and perineum (area between the anus and vagina). This is the most common type of labiaplasty in my practice. A wedge excision can be the right choice when central folds of the labia are most prominent.

Labia Majora
To reduce the labia majora (outer lips of the genital area), the best approach is usually to excise a portion toward the inside edge. In this way, incisions are hidden in the “v” between the labia majora and labia minora.

Clitoral Hood Reduction
A clitoral hood reduction—minor surgery that removes excess skin covering the clitoris—can be performed as part of a vaginal rejuvenation procedure or as a standalone surgery. The result is improved appearance and, sometimes, better sensation.

Fat Grafts for the Labia Majora
With aging or weight loss, some patients notice a loose, empty appearance of the labia majora. Fat grafts can restore youthful fullness to the region.

Candidates
When seeking vaginal rejuvenation plastic surgery, women are frequently seeking improvements in the function and form of their genitals. Some patients have witnessed their labia become elongated or deflated with weight loss, childbirth or time. Others have always had excess skin and have wished they could do something about it. All patients seek increased comfort in and out of clothing.

Recovery
Recovery from labiaplasty is usually very straightforward. Most patients need to take just a few days off work and avoid sex for about six weeks.
