2202[4K] Reverse Pressure Softening for Engorgement: A Step-by-Step Guide for Easier Breastfeeding
Original was uploaded on 2024-11-14
In this video, we demonstrate Reverse Pressure Softening, a simple and effective technique to help moms experiencing breast engorgement. Engorgement can make it challenging for babies to latch due to the pressure and swelling in the breast tissue, often causing nipples to flatten. This technique helps relieve the pressure in the areola area, making it easier for the baby to latch comfortably.
What is Reverse Pressure Softening?
Reverse Pressure Softening is a gentle method that moves excess fluid away from the nipple area, redistributing it into the breast tissue. By doing this, the nipple becomes more prominent, making it easier for babies to attach and feed effectively.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Place three fingers on each side of the nipple, close to the areola.
Gently press inward toward the chest and hold for around 15 seconds.
Rotate around the nipple, pressing in a petal-like pattern to ensure an even release of pressure.
Sometimes, a little milk may flow during this process, which is normal and helpful for softening the area further.
Tips for Comfort:
If you’re feeling discomfort, over-the-counter pain relief like ibuprofen can help ease any soreness.
Applying cool cabbage leaves to swollen areas, such as near the armpits, can also provide relief.
By the end of the process, the nipple should be more protruded, allowing for an easier latch. Engorgement can be tough, but with this technique, you can make the feeding process more comfortable for both you and your baby.
