What are options for breast surgery to improve sagging, low breasts? Dr. Caridi from Westlake Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas, explains five options to improve the look of breasts that may have fallen with age or in the case of the appearance of a long upper chest combined with a shorter abdomen.

Option 1 is a breast augmentation, and involves inserting a breast implant into the breast. This option provides for larger breasts and lifts the nipple, but in the case of having a long upper chest and a shorter abdomen, the implant will still sit down in the pre-existing lower breast area.

Option 2 is a breast reduction that removes some of the hanging tissue and makes the breasts appear smaller and perkier.

Option 3 is a mastopexy (breast lift) in which the envelope of the breasts is tightened to make the breasts appear perkier. One issue with this option is that a mastopexy often doesn’t last very long.

Option 4 is a mastopexy combined with an implant in which an implant is used to provide fullness in combination with skin tightening.

Option 5, and the most advanced, is a breast augmentation and reduction, known in Dr. Caridi’s office as a BAR. With the BAR procedure, the implant is designed to sit up high and the extra tissue in the sagging breast is reduced. With this option, the breasts appear higher and are not likely to sag again. The results are higher, tighter and perkier breasts.
