ROCÍO BOLIVER also known as La Congelada de Uva, (*1956 Mexico City, Mexico) draws from themes such as sexuality or violence and is committed against the oppression of women. Boliver studied performance art in New York (USA) and Quebec (CAN). In 2002, Boliver published her controversial book “Saber Escoger” and worked several times with performance pioneer Juan José Gurrola until 2007. Since 1991 she has performed in Europe, Asia, North and South America, including Grace Exhibition Space, New York or the City of Women Festival, Ljubljana. An icon of Mexican underground culture, Boliver has presented her work not only in museums, galleries or on television, but also at alternative forums such as the National Festival of Sadomasochism.

The International Performance Art Archive BLACK KIT | DIE SCHWARZE LADE contains information on about 4000 artists, thousands of photos, books, relics and videos. From June to October, it invites ten top international artists of performance art to Cologne. What will happen in the encounter?
On each of the five dates, two performance artists who have not yet worked together will meet for several days. What energies and patterns are at work in the performative practice when different performances create references to each other, even though the personal intentions of the artists involved are contradictory? And yet it is the decisive spark of performance art that crosses boundaries. Physical encounters, out of which networks emerge, are the connecting link.
Black Kit’s archive team seeks to investigate this sparking potential and invites performance artists in whose performances – we believe – stringent work-related antagonisms become visible. The Rhineland, which has been a center of performance art since the 1950s, will once again present performances at a top international level with this event series in 2022.
