“Stinkfist” is a song with deep meaning, like any other songs of Tool. They are certainly the most significant intellectual alternative in modern R&R, and in the modern music generally.
Maynard is very knowledgeable about modern psychology… howeverhe cleverly mask it behide various veils of humor wit or metaphor. *He is using the _act of Fisting_ to respresent the way people separate themselves from reality*. There’s no satisfaction to be found in a world where the outrageous and taboo is an everyday occurance. There’s nothing interesting when nothing is off limits. What would once make ladies faint and men appalled is shown to us daily and it’s become mundane. The fact that he equates it with fisting is just his devilish humor being perfectly showcased.

It can be also understud as a song about Borderline personality disorder (BPD), a cluster-B personality disorder whose essential features are a pattern of marked impulsivity and instability of affects, interpersonal relationships, and self image. The pattern is present by early adulthood and occurs across a variety of situations and contexts.
Also, this song is about Codependency, which is defined as a psychological condition or a relationship in which a person is controlled or manipulated by another who is affected with a pathological condition (typically narcissism or drug addiction); and in broader terms, it refers to the dependence on the needs of, or control
of, another. It can be characterized by denial, low self-esteem, excessive compliance, or control patterns. Narcissists are considered to be natural magnets for the codependent.
