Frank Hoffmann developed the program, Discovering Handsยฎ, which trains blind women to become Medical Tactile Examiners (MTEs). Their superior sensitive touch gives them a higher precision rate and enables them to detect breast cancer earlier than the average doctor.
This social project is supported by Boehringer Ingelheim and Ashoka within the Making More Health program.
This video demonstrates breast cancer detection techniques using trained blind women as experts. It shows a professional palpation exam on an exposed breast in a clinical setting. A male expert explains the process alongside ultrasound imaging and training tools.
