In American film and TV, Latina women are seen from two opposing perspectives: a curvy, tanned and incredibly sexy young woman, a “mature”, attractive woman and often in the stereotypical role of sexy Latina Maid. The second stereotype usually goes so unnoticed that the names of the actresses who play it are barely fixed in our memories. The first profile unfolds in two stereotypes widely used on screen: the Sexy Latina Woman, as the character of Penélope Cruz in the movie Zoolander 2, directed by Ben Stiller, from 2016, and the Hot-headed Woman, who is so extravagant how beautiful, like the noisy character of Sofia Vergara in the television series Modern Family, on the air since 2009. To mention an established actress in Hollywood, such as Penélope Cruz (of Spanish origin), and the actress Sofia Vergara (of Colombian origin), currently the the highest paid TV show on North American TV, it is important to demonstrate that not even they are able to detach themselves from the profile of the Latin woman and that these are not old stereotypes that have already fallen into disuse by Hollywood production. The stereotypes of the Latin woman in these productions persist as a misrepresentation.
