A clairvoyant healer looked inside my chakras. We drank tea and she spoke of the divine. “I was built for this!” she kept saying as she ranted on and on about learning to trust the universe. Free fall into the darkness of the unknown. It’s thrilling! It’s beautiful! Once you let go, you are free! The candlelight was burning in my studio. Late into the night we sat on the floor. I held paper in my lap to catch the words pouring out of the witch’s mouth. My ink scribbles became the lyrics to this song.

To move to my own music is a strange delight. I’m completely lost inside a world of my own, every layer feeling so intimate; the movement in my body responding to the sounds that once came from within my body which were sparked by ideas that originated in my mind after daydreams and trips into the deep realms of my imagination. Writing songs is an art of fantasy and a science of rhythm. I could not bring myself to only produce sounds. I also long to touch colors with my fingertips and slide my limbs in circles on the floor. To dance to my music surrounded by my paintings is my dream…when I’m inside. Outside, I dream of sunsets and paddleboards and wind in my hair on long road trips…also with my music blasting on the radio. I love to listen to other artist’s songs of course, and yet my own songs are like a custom fit piece of clothing, tailored perfectly to my soul; a fingerprint, an exact match for my own feelings. I can’t help but cheer up when I hear my own songs. They are my perfect medicine. I hope every artist, every human, can experience such delight as to swim inside their own creations.
