Designer Prabal Gurung is using his spring/summer 2022 collection as an alert to the status quo.

The veteran designer presented his show on Saturday (September 10) at the old Japanese consulate on the United Nations Plaza.

“It represents everything that we want to see in the world,” Gurung said of the location.

“I would say like a voice for the underrepresented, hopefully, you know, and that’s the world that we all want to see, the world we want to create,” he added.

For him the line is a celebration of those who are often monitored, scrutinized, watched, but rarely seen.

“These are the people, misfits of the world. These are people in the status quo and the patriarchy and the establishment seem threatening. You know, these are – it could be women, it could be feminine leaning people. Feminine leaning ideas.

Garments were a mix of bold and bright colors with soft sheers coupled next to metallics and liquid-like gloves and leggings.

Models of all sizes and genders helped the designer showcase his line, including the step-daughter to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Ella Emhoff.

New York Fashion Week: The Show will run until September 14.
