Nude Beaches of Australia: Smalleys Beach – a nude beach all to ourselves

Back in June 2022, my friend, Katya, and I ventured to the North Queensland region to explore the nudist scene up there.

Our second nude beach exploration of the trip was a nude beach called ‘Smalleys Beach’.

Smalleys Beach is an unofficial nude beach located approximately 35 kilometres north of Mackay in Central Queensland, Australia.

It is situated along the ‘Hibiscus Coast’ and is adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area.

The beach backs onto the Cape Hillsborough National Park where there is the option to camp behind the beach at the ’Smalleys Beach Camping Area’ (although it’s not nude camping).

When we arrived, there really wasn’t much of a beach! The tide was SOOOOO far out (like a few hundred metres far out!) that we thought that perhaps it’s really not so much of a beach…

But…at the end of the day…the tide came all the way back in and we were then convinced it WAS, indeed, a beach. The tidal activity is wild there!

We ended up having the beach all to ourselves for the entire day and made the most of our time exploring this beautifully wild and remote landscape.
