Description: Sauna culture is an integral part of the lives of the majority of the Finnish population. Traditionally the sauna has been considered a sacred space โ€“ ‘a church of nature’. It is a place not only to wash oneโ€™s body, but also cleanse the mind and embrace a sense of inner peace. There are a variety of forms and approaches in sauna culture, with none taking precedence over another. Traditions are transmitted through families and can be practised in private homes or public places.

This video explores Finnish sauna culture with scenes of steaming interiors and traditional birch branch rituals. A mature woman holds vihta branches while groups relax on wooden benches. Bare-chested women and girls share the steamy space, with one in a green floral swimsuit top and subtle nipple glimpses in the low light.
