The Xhosa people are a Bantu ethnic group residing primarily in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, as well as other parts of the country to a lesser extent. Related, but distinct, tribal groups and subgroups, like the Mfengu, Mpondo, Xesibe, Bomvana, Thembu, and others, make up the Xhosa population
History. The Xhosa are part of the South African Nguni migration which slowly moved south from the region around the Great Lakes, displacing the original Khoisan hunter gatherers of Southern Africa.
